About

theresa belvilleTheresa Belville learned to knit as a child on a rainy afternoon, taught by a resourceful grandma who was trying to keep the energetic young girl busy.  She started her independent design line, Little Turtle Knits, in early 2000, not long after her first child was born. Whether it’s classic baby sweaters, a coffee cozy, or myriad clever creations in between, the goal of this self-described “earth-diggin’, yarn-knittin’, bread-bakin’ mama to a tribe of boys” is to create designs that are classic, but with modern appeal.   In particular, Theresa loves designing for young guys, and often taps into her boys’ energy and vibe for inspiration.  (They’re quite particular in their choices, especially in anything mama is going to make for them!) You can find Little Turtle Knits designs at local yarn shops and online.

In her knitting classes, Theresa strives to help each of her knitting students to “Find their Inner Knitter” and builds classes that emphasize each knitter’s individuality.  She firmly believes that there’s no “right” way to knit – only the way that’s right for you. If you’re interested in upcoming classes, or would like to host a workshop, please contact Theresa.

Little Turtle Knits was born from my passion to create, to teach, and to share beautiful things. In today’s fast-paced, industrialized and big box world, knitting is revolutionary. The process of knitting, of forming stitch after stitch- it’s so much more than just making fabric. It’s magic.

In addition to her indie work, Theresa is an IBCLC (Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and holds Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and English.  She is currently working towards a nursing degree, with the goal of becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.  She thinks you should know:

I’m a transplanted New Yorker, now living near Philadelphia (the things we do for love!)  Much to my Yankee’s fan father, this Phillies’ fan can often be found knitting in front of the TV on a summer night, yelling at bad calls right alongside my guys. My happy place is sitting in an adirondack chair with a gin + tonic and my knitting, surrounded by people I love, at the Big White House in Maine.
