Two other lucky readers will win a set of handcrafted stitch markers. To be entered for a chance at the yarn + markers, you’ll need to leave a comment on this post answering the following question:

What is the best handcrafted gift you have ever received?

For a second chance to win the yarn + markers (and a 25% off coupon for an order in the shop, you’ll want to subscribe to our feed (there’s a handy link over there on the right) and email me (littleturtlemama at gmail dot com) the giveaway coupon code. (You can then feel free to use the coupon code in the shop to save 25% off!) All comments and emails received by midnight tonight will be eligible to win. Winner will be announced tomorrow, with the goodies shipping out this week. We welcome international contestants, too!

Hands down the crocheted doll my grandmother made me as a little girl. She just made one for my daughter this year as well. I think they will be the most treasured in my home for years to come.

Not too many crafters in my circle, but my most memorable gift is a handmade one. My great aunt (who passed last year at the age of 96) was the crafter in the family. She was a quilter (all hand-sewn), knitter and embroiderer. When I was about 8, she knit my sister and me a striped crewneck sweater in our school colors. They were beautiful (still are, I keep mine in my cedar chest), without a missed stitch. My sister and I were so excited to get them, at that age school color loyalty was VERY important. We both pulled our sweaters out of their boxes and put them on – or I should say attempted to put them on. The sweaters were perfectly sized except for one thing – the neckholes were about 2 sized too small. I'll never forget crying every time my mother made me wear that sweater. It hurt so much to pull it over my head, but the pain was worth all the laughs we've had over the years.

Good luck today & thanks for helping me laugh again about my favorite handmade gift!

The best handmade gift I ever received is one I still have…a stuffed Santa from my grandmother. In fact, he’s sitting nearby – he comes out each year with the Christmas decorations. My grandmother made him for me probably 30 years ago. He has a tag on the back that says “Made with love from Neenie.”

The best handmade gift I have ever received is a quilt given to me by my lifelong neighbor when I got married. She was an avid quilter, but not able to quilt anymore and her daughter that lives with her actually made it. I was very blessed.

    Hi there,

Best handmade gift? A beautifully intricate sweater made by my mom, which I didn’t appreciate at the time (ingrate college student that I was) but which I later appreciated and made sure I told her so many times over! Now I honor her skill by being an obsessive knitter myself!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

My brother vacillates between giving no gifts, to giving absolutely brilliant handmade or repurposed items – (which I think is great, as I don’t feel I ‘need’ to get gifts!) Anyway, the best one would have to be a jewellery box he hand-made as a wedding gift for me, which has a veneer of grafted American/English oak on the lid (so you can see the two different woods at the graft line)Love it, love my bro!

The very best handcrafted item was a cross stitched pillow my grandmother in Sweden made then shipped. She put in all of the things my mother said I liked at the time like cats, dogs and horses. I slept with that thing until it fell apart. I brought the pieces with me the only time I was able to meet my grandmother to show her how much her love and effort meant to me.
