    Probably handknit red rough wool mittens from my grandmother. I can still, to this day, remember how itchy they felt but boy did I love wearing them. I knew they were special because my grandma had made them for ME! ;-)

    I wish I had learnt to knit back then, we would have had a great bond.

    My grandmother used to make every grandchild a pair of pajamas for Christmas. One year, instead of the long flannel nightgown, my sister and I got some gowns made from red knit. They were floor length, had turtlenecks and elastic waists. We thought they looked like evening gowns lol and felt so glamorous when we wore them.

    My nana used to sew my clothes when I was in grade school, and she made me a green gingham shirt and skirt. The skirt had a drawstring ruching on the side that you could tighten to pull up the edge of the skirt — if that makes sense. Little cap sleeves and a button front, it was awesome.

    My sister, who is not at all crafty, made me a large framed cross-stitch which says “Sisters by chance, friends by choice” and has a photo of us in the middle, and she had it professionally framed. It is one of my most prized possesions, because she learned how to cross stitch just to make it for me! I would use the yarn to crochet something for her :)

    Because I am a crafter, most people don’t give me handmade things (silly people). They assume that I could just make one myself. But when I was a little girl, my Grandma Margie knit me a little mint green and white cardigan with white carnation buttons and an Irish cap to match, and I loved that set for years and years. I still have it, in fact, and have never stopped loving it. leafygreenes@gmail.com

    What is the best handcrafted gift you have ever received?

    My great grandmother, when I was a wee thing, made a crochet afgan for me. I adore that afgan to bits and pieces. So many bits and pieces, my grandmother actually has it in storage and won’t let me touch it until I’m married, because she’s afraid I’ll destroy it. ^^;

    The best present I’ve ever gotten was from my mom. Although she has given me tons of handmade things like ornaments, scarves, socks and a very cute ballerina bear; my favorite was a custom made science experiment set. It had all the makings for a few science projects like a volcano and cornstartch goo. As a kid who loved to experiment, it was perfect!
